Hook into Hockey provides an inviting fun environment in which children can discover and enjoy the skills of the great international sport of hockey. The underlying philosopy is consistent with the growing enlightened attitude that organised sport has far reaching benefits when it is structured to meet the needs of children. Hook into Hockey is designed to:
What is U7 Hook into Hockey? The U7 Hook into Hockey is a modified form of hockey designed to meet the needs of children from 5 to 9 years of age. It is a fun game in which children can discover new skills, gain a sense of achievement and well-being and develop an appreciation of the satisfying sensations that a healthy team sport has to offer. It also provides an opportunity to co-operate and compete with opponents within the rules of a fun game and develop an appreciation of desirable codes of behaviour. The pressure of adult imposed competition is removed and only that competition needed to give the game purpose is retained. It becomes a fun learning environment, encouraging participation and achievement irrespective of the inherent abilities of the participants. The game and rules are modified to ensure a simple and safe version of the game of Hockey played on a half size field with a maximum of six players per side. What is U9 Hook into Hockey? The U9 Hook into Hockey is a modified form of hockey designed to meet the needs of children from 6 to 9 years of age. It is the stepping stone from U7 towards the full game of hockey. Essentially it is played with all the rules of hockey with the exception of having only eight players on each side on a three-quarter field at one time. The aim of the U9 program is to give the necessary skills to the age group before entering to a fully competitive program of Junior Hockey. When and where are the sessions? The program will be run on Friday afternoons commencing at 4.15 p.m to 5.30pm at the Meridan Sporting Fields, Meridan Way, Caloundra West How long is the season? The 2011 season will commence on Friday March 11 to Friday September 16. We do not hold the sessions during the school holidays. Registration Fee The 2011 season registration fee is $50.00. On receipt of full payment, players will receive their player gift pack. This pack includes a goal, hockey stick, shin pads and a hockey ball. When do registrations close? Never. The club always welcomes new players, no matter how late in the season we are. What uniform is there? There is no uniform as such. Children just need to dress for the weather, i.e. shorts/skirt if it is hot; or tracksuit if it is cold. Runners will be suitable for footwear (there is no need to buy football boots, however, if players have football boots it is okay to wear them). Socks can be any colour or style but need to be long enough to keep the shin pads in place. Club socks are available for purchase if you would like a pair of these. Cancellations We will play whenever the field is considered safe. After a couple of days of heavy rain we may need to cancel games due to the grounds being unsafe, even if it is not raining on the day. Wet weather plans will be communicated to parents at the commencement of the season. Who do we contact? Contact the U7 & U9 Coordinator or Administrator Belle Stevenson on 0450 497 016. |
