News From SCHA

Please check SCHA website regularly for their updates.  Everyone should now be aware of the new rule of running on the field at the halfway line at the beginning of games.

The scores for the Under 13’s who are at State Titles are on the first page is you are keen for a squizz along with news of the Vets women’s preparations for their State titles.

SCHA are keen to send 2 teams of Under 11’s to Southern Cross and Coulter Shield so if you would like to be part of either of these teams then please go to the training on Saturday 16th July at 8.00am.

SCHA are looking for your input into their planning for the future in conjunction with Sunshine Coast Regional Council.  They feel we should ask for a second turf and let Cricket have two of the grass fields.  Please read the message from the president on the website and feel free to have your say.  Any comments can be emailed to me and I will pass them on.

Fundraising

We have a few opportunities this year.  The first is to take a couple of boxes of chocolates from Katie Johnson and sell them at your school, workplace or in your street.. Please contact Katie.

New Turf Rules/Usage

Please be aware of the following changes to our new turf usage.  STILL ALWAYS WASH YOUR FEET

When you are on the turf, whether it be training or playing a game....there is NO jewellery or bobby pins!!! Take it off, tape it up or don't play.

Please be aware of the following changes to the use of the new turf surface.

(a)     All junior fixtures will be conducted on a dry surface.

(b)     All senior fixtures will be conducted on a wet surface.

(c)     All training, including representative, will be conducted on a dry surface.

This does not change the rule that players, coaches, umpires etc must still use the wash baths to clean their footwear on entry to the turf at all times.

The new surface has been designed to be used wet or dry. After consultation with Team Sports as well as a number of hockey clubs around Australia, the turf is perfectly good for dry use and will not affect how the game is played, but more importantly, will not affect the longevity of the surface. Altona Club in Melbourne for example, have never wet their surface in six years of operation (yes, I know it rains in Melbourne a little more) however even senior fixtures are run ‘dry’, with no ill effect on the pitch. In their opinion, if they had the budget, they would use exactly the same system as above.

Players would have noticed that the weave of this new hybrid surface is a lot coarser – a by-product of the role it is intended for. Thus burns and skin loss have to be considered. I can assure you that wet or dry does not make any difference when sliding across the surface, so I urge clubs to ensure that first aid kits are suitably equipped to cater for a few extra skinned knees and elbows and that the ‘blood rule’ for the turf is strictly enforced. The blood rule is not only for the care of the individual player, but also those other players on the pitch.

Hooked into Hockey

Hooked into Hockey is now underway for this year and is being held at our Meridan fields on a Friday from 4.30pm to 5.30pm.  If you are keen to have a go please just turn up and give it a crack.  As always if you could spare a little time to help out that would be wonderful.

Caloundra Seahawks Hooked into Hockey won a trip to Amsterdam to the Champions Trophy which is very exciting.  We plan to hold a raffle with the tickets as the prize to add much needed funds to our club so keep your eye out for these and buy lots – that gives you a much better chance of winning.

Primary School Hockey

The Sunshine Coast Regional Primary School Hockey Trials will be held on the 4th May 2011 at SCHA fields.  Players who would like to attend these trials would of needed to attend their District Trial.
